My name is Britney and in 2013 I started planning my own wedding. I was excited about this new experience because I had always been interested and successful with planning events but had zero idea what it meant to plan a wedding. There is much to learn in such little time. The Wedding planning process proved to be incredible and interesting… Not always good interesting either. Unfortunately the part that immediately stood out to me was the amount of waste that is “normal” from an average wedding.
To put this in perspective, there are thousands and thousands of weddings each year and all of the elaborate and excessive events involved with these celebrations produce an alarmingly large carbon footprint and I found this information shocking. So I decided to do something about the problem.
I was determined not to ignore this problem and not to pretend that it didn’t concern me because it does–environmental issues affect us all. What I’ve realized is that you don’t need to sacrifice an amazing day for a Green Wedding—this is not an “either or” situation. You can have both the beautiful day and the Green Wedding and that’s what I’m hoping to teach you with this blog. I successfully planned and enjoyed my own Green Wedding in the summer of 2014 and I want to teach and inspire people to have the Weddings of their dreams while simultaneously reducing the size of carbon footprint that the celebration leaves behind.
I love helping people create their vision. I’m a great researcher and I’m very good at putting ideas into a formal plan. I’m a DIYer and I’m very interested in teaching others what I’ve learned over the years. I love a good challenge especially when I am able to solve it creatively and if the challenge happens to somehow incorporate positive social change? Then I’m an even bigger fan of that!
I’m an avid supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society. My husband and I have participated in many of the Relay for Life walks in our city. I believe that our everyday actions have a greater impact on our society, and world than we realize and finding even small ways to give back to our community can make a large difference.
I am dedicated to pursuing knowledge. In the summer of 2014 I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in English Literature but my days of learning did not end there. In October of 2015 I became a certified Wedding Planner with WPIC and July 2016 I earned my certificate as a Green Wedding Planner. Whether I’m enrolled in formal education or learning from the world around me I will continue to absorb information and my hope is to continuously teach and learn.
I am also a formally trained writer and researcher and enjoy exercising these skills with my blog posts. I also use my writing skills to help others as I sell custom Maid of Honour (and other speeches) in my Etsy shop (which you can find here: http://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/TheEcoBrideProject ).
I’m interested in hosting guest bloggers and doing guest blogging for others. I also do product reviews and company interviews for eco-friendly products.
