New Year’s New Beginning

Happy New Year! I have to admit that I’m a total sucker for New Year’s! I love the idea of wrapping up everything (good and bad) from the previous year, letting it go, and moving forward. “And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.” –Rainer Maria Rilke Looking back at 2016 there were some AMAZING things! My husband and I bought out first home, sent a sister off to University, watched three more siblings graduate, helped my brother and his Fiancé move into their first home, found out my husband’s diagnosis was incorrect and actually non-existent and so so much more! There are, of course, the not so awesome things but these come with the good. Now, 2017! My biggest goal is to minimize. Minimize things (we’ve been in this house since May so HOW is it already full of crap!?), minimize stress, minimize workloads, minimize worries etc. I’ve realized that until I make some extra room in my life that I can’t possibly take on anything else. So …

Eco-Friendly Bridesmaid Gifts

Having your friends stand beside you on your wedding day is truly an honour. These people have been a part of your life (maybe for a lifetime or a short time… doesn’t matter) but these are the people (or person) that you’ve asked to stand with you—so how do you say thank you? The “thank you” aspect of the wedding process is crucial. The “thank you” etiquette as stated by Emily Post’s 18th edition (highly recommend this book for anyone interested in etiquette) the “thank you” should be done in writing and done quickly (Post 630). For the bridal party gift giving timeframe there are typically two times that are traditional to give the gift. The first is on the morning of the wedding while you’re all getting ready together and the second is at the rehearsal dinner where you would give the gift after you toast each of your attendants. Now that you know the importance and the traditional etiquette of the “thank you” you might still be at a loss as to what to …

Tale as Old as Time…

Working with a few new clients this week 🙂 It is such a privilege to learn the backstory of so many friendships—how they met, their favourite stories or favourite songs they share… Taking these histories and making them into a meaningful and special story for my client to deliver back to his or her friend is honestly just so cool if you’re interested in having me write a speech for you please click here). Every story is unique and that uniqueness makes the writing process so exciting. I only wish I could be there when it’s delivered! People ask, “What formula do you use to write these custom speeches?” and this question always makes me laugh because while there certainly is a basic outline to use when writing a speech (people you need to acknowledge, certain special memories to recall, and of course actually toasting the happy couple—you’d be surprised how many people forget this!!), there is no copy-and-paste routine to these speeches—there just can’t be. Once a person hires me, I send my client a …

Wedding Speech Trends

When I think about Weddings and trends I think about the ever changing gown styles, the move from the cupcake phenomenon to the “naked cake,” and the emergence of the popular moissanite stone. I think of the tangible pieces as the trendy parts but I’ve realized that Wedding Speeches are not immune to the ever changing cultural trends that sweep over us. As a whole, trends pull us in, we are in awe, we are entertained, and then we are bored, and then what? Well, we’re just sort of “over it.” Trends are difficult because we consume them in such a high dosage that we make ourselves almost literally sick to our stomachs and then we have a sort of visceral reaction to these trends afterwards. We’re just so done with seeing/hearing/engaging with the trend that the demise is rarely gradual and thoughtful but rather it’s a drastic and almost overnight decision that it’s not the in thing anymore and now it’s uncool to like it (and for heavens sake do not even mention it… unless …
